Join us for an engaging key lecture exploring how dance traditions shift from everyday practices to recognised heritage. The talk critically examines the concepts of “intangible” and “heritage” through the lens of the 1972 and 2003 UNESCO conventions, arguing for a clearer distinction between “tradition” and “heritage.” Using dance as a case study, it highlights how heritagisation adds symbolic value while also shaping the way traditions are documented and perceived. This reflection offers valuable insights for cultural practitioners, heritage policymakers, and anyone interested in the future of safeguarding dance.
