Csárdás dance (Hungary)

In the film, two dancers from Sárköz demonstrate the basic steps of the csárdás dance. The csárdás is a typical couple dance in the Sárköz dance tradition. The csárdás is characterized by the alternation and variation of rhythm: it begins with a slow tempo and concludes with a lively, very fast-paced section known as “friss’. There are also several other variations, including the “ritka csárdás”, “sűrű csárdás” and “szökős csárdás”. The music typically has a pulsating, syncopated 2/4 os 4/4 rhythm.

The Hungarian Open Air Museum thanks the cooperation of the "Gerlice bird" Traditional Folk Dance Association of Sárpilis, dance instructor Margit Kolbert and the dancers Noémi Keserű and Zsolt Keserű.
