Digital co-working and seminar on sustainability

As the consortium has entered a year where we do not meet physically, we have scheduled several digital events for discussions, coffee breaks and reading circles. These are necessary in order to maintain progress in our project, revise deadlines and update each other about challenges and solutions that we experience as the project moves forward.

In March 2024 we met for a two-hour online reading circle on the topic sustainability. One of Dance - ICH’s main objectives is to “develop sustainable facilitator models through co-creation processes with heritage communities in safeguarding dancing as living ICH”- which implies that we need to scientifically be updated on the most important projects and cultural policies on cultural and social sustainability. For this purpose, we invited project coordinator for LIVIND – Creative and living cultural heritage as a resource for the Northern Dimension, Elisa Krataari, from Finland, to facilitate our session. We had group discussions and made interesting notes with thoughts on the relevance and issues around sustainable structures for our different local case studies and dance communities.

We can also recommend two interesting and important scientific articles on the topic of traditional music and dance and sustainability,  “Cultural sustainability—Art and Ubuntu as rationales for dancing” by Egil Bakka, Gediminas Karoblis, Ronald Kibirige and Solomon Gwerevende from 2024, and “Sustainability, Resilience, and Adaptive Management for Applied Ethnomusicology” by Jeff Todd Titon from 2015.
